In order to understand what would be considered a COLD disorder, in traditional terms, it is important to understand that whether, hot, cold or wind, there are associated element(s). There are also associated qualities and tastes. There are also associated mental-emotional causes. The increase of certain elements/qualities/tastes/mental-emotional stress will increase the "coldness", "hotness", or "windiness".
ELEMENTS: Earth-Water, Wind
The Earth-Water element will increase the cold condition.
The increase of the Wind element, whose nature is Cold, will increase the Cold condition.
It moves primarily through the stomach, spleen, kidneys, bladder, chyle, muscle, fat, marrow, and reproductive fluids.
QUALITIES that increase earth-water, are also qualities of a cold condition:
Heavy, oily, stable, sticky, smooth, cold, wet.
MENTAL - EMOTIONAL STRESS:
Delusion, confusion, ignorance and closed mindedness.
In Sowa Rigpa Hot and Cold disease are called Tripa,(literally Bile) and Bedkan (literally soil-water). Wind, called Rloong is seen as a combination of consciousness and "life energy". These 3 are called "Nyespa" which like the word "Dosha" in Ayurveda literally means FAULT. These three energies can be seen as cause and effect of the compensatory power of the body. Always changing and meeting new stresses and shortcomings of the body, balance is found and consistently new challenges immediately arise. In health the adaptability and compensatory power is sufficient to keep apparent stability in the health. In disease this ability decreases, balance becomes harder to establish, and illness ensues.
Home remedies for cold are opposite to those that increase it. So hot, light, and sharp kind of qualities will decrease the cold.
Also, sour, salty and spicy tastes will most directly decrease the cold. These are anabolic remedies and cures cold.
